Chapter Two · Episode Three
The Life That Waited
Juniper did not take the masked figure’s hand.
But she followed.
The veils parted as they moved, silk brushing the air with a sound so soft it barely reached the ear. The room deepened the farther they walked. What had seemed like a single chamber revealed itself as a slow unfolding of smaller spaces, each one warmer than the last. Pools gave way to shallow channels of water that curved between the stones. The candles drifted along their surfaces as though guided by a current too gentle to feel.
The masked figure walked ahead of her without looking back.
Juniper noticed the ease of their movement. Not careful. Not hesitant. As if every path through this place had been walked a thousand times already.
